Black Bear Hibernation

Due to black bear hibernation, a baby is rarely met in winter and taking a photo gallery is difficult. Females with yearlings den first; males usually wait for the first snowfall. During the hibernation these animals slightly reduce their body temperature and the rate of metabolism. They are lethargic and neither eat nor expel body wastes, but may easily awaken if disturbed. Animals in the northern territories den earlier and remain in their dens longer than those in the south. In September they begin to look for suitable sites, pregnant females are very particular about the den site, as they have to give birth to 2-3 helpless cubs in January. Due to black bear hibernation, a baby is rarely met in winter and taking a photo gallery is difficult.
